Candlelighters

a place for women who cherish the Torah

Candlelighter Defined

Do you light Shabbat candles? Do you study the Torah mindfully and put it into daily practice? Do you hope to be an Eshet Chayil? Do you help others whenever you can? Do you make mistakes and choose to repent? Do you long for the World to Come?

Then you are a candlelighter.

A candlelighter lights the Shabbat candles with reverence, symbolically drawing HaShem’s presence into her home.

She strives to keep her soul pure, her spirit grateful, her faith strong, her lifestyle set apart, her speech clean, her dress modest, her attitude humble, and her home peaceful.

She honors Shabbat, trusts HaShem, and respects the Torah.

She cultivates compassion, charity, and patience toward others, while developing inward qualities of integrity and spiritual awareness.

She endeavors to exist in a state of repentance, constantly yielding her rights for the sake of peace.

She keeps the commandments of HaShem and joyfully waits for the coming of Mashiach.

She lives to sanctify HaShem within the world.

But most importantly, she lights the candles.
